After the students discussed how to really look at an object and draw what they actually see and not what they know about the object, the students were asked to draw any flower from their memory. The students were they challenged to recreate the daisy on the Smart Board using their newly gained knowledge.
Part 2: Contour & Cross Contour Line
Part 1: Drawing Introduction
The students began their drawing with a unit. They came into class and were asked to draw a very familiar image; Mickey Mouse. The students then learned that most of their drawings were inaccurate because the students were drawing what they thought Mickey looked like instead of drawing how it was presented in the image. The students took a look at a close attempt and picked apart why Ms. Salatino's drawing was inaccurate. The students picked out that Mickey was drawing facing forward, there was a gap drawn in between his feet that didn't exist in the original image and so on.
After the students learned about how to draw what they actually see, the students were then introduced to the idea of contour and cross contour lines to create the illusion of form. The students drew different pumpkins and squash that were sitting on their tables. The students needed to convey the different plains and surface area on the vegetables in order to create the illusion of form and depth.
Part 3: Concept and Value Introduction
The students were then introduced to our project. The students were asked to use their iPad or cell phones and to take pictures around the school that represented Merton Williams. The students were encouraged to take pictures of different subjects, sports, the hallways anything that was a part of the school. The students then took these pictures and turned them into black and white images using the editing feature on their iPads. The students were then asked to recreate these photographs using pencil and the value and blending techniques learned during class.
