IntroductionPart 1:
Students first began this assignment by learning about composition. The students learned some tips and tricks on ways to make a stronger composition. Part 2: We did a simple activity where I asked the students to give me an appropriate number, a letter and a simple picture. I drew out a weak composition not using any of the tips (everything was in the center, it was all same size, the images were "kissing" and everything was straight. We had a discussion on what was wrong with my design and how I could improve the image (rotating, cropping, overlapping, size variation, off-centering). Afterwards, I asked a student to come up and draw a stronger example using the same letter, number and easy picture. |

Part 3:
We then took a look at the power of symbols and images and how we can communicate ideas through images and symbols. Without saying a word, I can communicate things that represent Ms. Salatino. These images can represent things, places (Eiffle Tower= Paris), actions (peace sign= being peaceful) cultures and religions (crucifix= Christianity, star of David= Judaism, etc.) |
