The students began their project by learning about Shepard Fairey. The class discussed that Shepard wanted to help Obama with his campaign and created an image from a photo online. The poster because a huge success and all the money that came in was used to buy more materials and supplies. The students also learned about the huge legal battle this caused since Shepard never sought permission from the original owner of the photograph. The class had a long discussion about how to avoid this by being careful when looking up images on Google and using the "labelled for reuse" feature.
The students were asked to choose a positive role model and create an poster. The students were also asked to choose a single word or simple phrase to characterize this role model. Next the students chose a specific font for their word. The students then printed out their image and were asked to choose ONE COLOR and add it to their black and white print out. The students needed to find and specifically select areas to remain white. |
