The students began this project by looking at the history of cartoons and flip books. From there, we looked at the You-Tube artist Andymation not only for samples of his flip books, but also how he uses videos as reference when drawing.
Gesture Drawing IntroNext, the students were introduced to gesture drawing. The students learned how to draw very simplified gesture drawings to indicate body movement and how our arms and legs shift with our joints to create the illusion of movement. The students had to complete a gesture drawing packet before moving on to their final. Starting Their Flip BooksMs. Salatino made the students each a 3"x5" flip books with around 25 pages each. The students began to draw out their flipbooks and made sure to have the first few pages the same. The students were also encouraged to use the classroom iPads to record their classmates and use the video as a reference. Other students used You-Tube references to assist in their drawings. The students then began to slowly have the scenes change from page to page. The students utilized both natural light and light tables to assist in their flip book drawing.
