The students first began this project by looking at the work of Banksy. The students as a group, "Picked Apart the Art" discussed their interpretations of what they believed the artist was trying to say through his artwork. The class then came back together to share what they discussed in each of the groups.
Next the class looked at what were some reoccurring and consistent elements within graffiti. Some of the elements they discussed were: overlapping, bright colors, jagged and geometric style letters Afterwards, Ms. S introduced that the students would be creating some positive graffiti. The class brainstormed as a group, different words that conveyed positivity. Ms. Salatino later did a demonstration to show the students how to create graffiti style words. The students created a rough draft and added bright colors. The students were instructed to choose one color and then rotate in the order of the color wheel either clockwise or counter clockwise.
